“The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” ―Molière
This closeup photo of a park bench with a flower growing through the slats of wood put me in mind of the idea of growing in spite of obstacles. Actually, human beings tend to grow not in spite of obstacles, but because of them. Obstacles force us to be creative to solve our problems. They provide us with opportunities to manifest qualities that are latent within us, just waiting for the right time to be activated. In order to overcome our obstacles, we reach deep within ourselves and pull out strength, patience, fortitude, calm, courage, humility, tolerance, discernment, and grace.
Some of our obstacles are outer ones, usually in the form of other people or “the rules” putting a kabosh on what we want to do. Other obstacles are within us, represented by our attitudes and beliefs that are holding us back from achieving our goals. The next time you encounter an obstacle in your path, ask yourself what you might be able to learn or practice in order to come up with a solution to your problem. Write down your obstacle and how you got around it in your journal. And since your obstacle was given to you for your growth and maturation as Soul, thank God for it, and for all God’s help in overcoming it. 🙂
